Thirty Years of KDE
When I joined KDE in 1999 I already thought of it as a mature project.
Executive Summary
When I joined KDE in 1999 I already thought of it as a mature project. I used the KDE desktop every day, and I was delighted with what it could do and how it felt. I had no idea that this would be one of the most impactful decisions of my life, or where it would lead me. Today we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the original announcement of KDE. The project is still alive and kicking.
Steam Deck Hardware & Handheld Performance Report
From a mobile SoC, thermal envelope, and embedded Linux standpoint, this Steam Deck milestone highlights: - **Dynamic Power Scaling (TDP Control):** Fine-grained APU clock gating allows sustained 3-8 hour battery life on indie workloads. - **Gamescope Compositor Integration:** Micro-compositor isolation guarantees frame-pacing stability and system-level FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution). - **Immutable Root Filesystem:** A/B partition updates ensure bulletproof system integrity even after catastrophic battery exhaustion.
Impact on the Open Ecosystem
Demonstrates that consumer hardware built on an open Linux kernel can compete directly with closed handheld ecosystems.
