FOSSWire Privacy Policy
Privacy-First Architecture Effective Date: October 9, 2026
1. Overview
FOSSWire (fosswire.org) and the FOSSWire Android Application are committed to absolute user privacy. Our platform is built on the philosophy of open source, freedom, and computational autonomy.
2. Zero Data Collection
FOSSWire does NOT collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data, device identifiers, IP addresses, location data, or behavioral metrics.
- No User Accounts: You do not need to register, provide an email, or log in to use the service.
- No Commercial Tracking: We do not use Google Firebase Analytics, Facebook SDKs, Crashlytics, or any third-party marketing trackers.
- No Commercial Ads: The app and site contain zero advertisements.
3. Local Device Storage (Offline Caching & Bookmarks)
The Android application uses your device's local storage (SharedPreferences) solely for:
- Caching public news articles to provide offline reading capabilities.
- Storing your locally saved/bookmarked article IDs.
- Remembering your interface language preference and selected theme.
This data never leaves your device and is not synchronized to any cloud server.
4. Network Communications
The application communicates via standard HTTPS strictly with our static, serverless endpoints hosted on Cloudflare Pages (https://fosswire.org/api/v1/news.json) to retrieve open-source technical news updates. No headers containing user identification are sent.
5. Third-Party Links
Articles may link to original open-source source specifications (e.g., kernel.org, riscv.org, github.com) or community donation pages (e.g., buymeacoffee.com). When following external links, the respective site's privacy terms apply.
6. Contact & Open Source Audits
The FOSSWire client is open source. You can audit the complete source code directly at github.com/ozdil/fosswire.
