PostgreSQL RPM repositories add browsable software directory for 70+ packages
The PostgreSQL PGDG RPM repositories now have dedicated web pages for every packaged tool, not just extensions, with install commands and availability matrices drawn from live metadata.
Summary
The PostgreSQL YUM and ZYPP repository websites have launched new Software sections listing more than 70 packages across categories including backup, high availability, connection pooling, monitoring, and migration. Each package page includes descriptions, exact dnf or zypper install commands, and a live-generated table showing which OS versions, architectures, and PostgreSQL versions currently support it. Previously, only extensions had documentation pages, leaving tools like pgBackRest, Patroni, and PgBouncer difficult to discover without knowing their exact package names.
What the new software pages cover
- Coverage: 70+ packages across 6+ categories, plus per-version tools (pg_catcheck, pg_checksums, pg_filedump, repmgr) and support libraries (GIS libs, Python modules, cargo-pgrx)
- Platforms: RHEL/Rocky Linux/AlmaLinux, Fedora, Amazon Linux via yum.postgresql.org; SLES 15/16 and openSUSE Leap 16.0 via zypp.postgresql.org
- Live data: Availability tables are generated from current repository metadata, not static documentation
- Install guidance: Pages include exact dnf/zypper commands and note when extras or non-free repositories must be enabled
Why it matters
This lowers the barrier for DBAs and system administrators to discover and deploy the broader PostgreSQL tooling ecosystem on RPM-based distributions, particularly for organizations using EDB's maintained repositories as their primary software source.
