Tiling Shell v18.0 adds right-click mouse tiling, GNOME 51 support
Tiling Shell v18.0 introduces right-mouse-button tiling activation and fixes fractional scaling issues, now supporting GNOME 45 through 51.
Summary
Tiling Shell v18.0 is now available for GNOME 45 through 51. The update adds an optional right-mouse-button activation method for window tiling, similar to PowerToys FancyZones on Windows: hold left button to drag, then right button to trigger layout zones. The release also fixes fractional scaling UI issues, adds a shortcut to un-tile all windows at once, and introduces per-display options for the "raise together" behavior.
What's new in Tiling Shell v18.0
- Right-mouse-button tiling: Hold left button to drag window, then hold right button to display tiling zones; release left button to snap. Disabled by default, must be enabled in settings.
- GNOME 51 support: Extension now works with GNOME 45 through 51 (Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or newer).
- Fractional scaling fix: Snap assistant, menu, layout editor and other UI elements no longer appear oversized when fractional scaling is active.
- New shortcuts: Global shortcut to un-tile all windows from a layout simultaneously.
- Workspace and display options: Toggle whether layout changes apply per-workspace or globally; optional "raise together" can be limited to current display only.
Why it matters
The right-mouse-button option lowers the barrier for users migrating from Windows PowerToys, while the fractional scaling fix addresses a common pain point for HiDPI users on GNOME. The per-workspace and per-display controls give power users more predictable multi-monitor behavior.
