Headlamp receives alpha Kueue plugin for workload troubleshooting
A new alpha plugin for the Headlamp UI allows users to trace Kubernetes Job admission issues through Kueue resources.
Summary
A new 0.1.0-alpha plugin for the Headlamp Kubernetes UI has been introduced to assist with troubleshooting Kueue-managed workloads. The plugin provides read-only visibility into Kueue resources, allowing users to distinguish between admission delays caused by Kueue and scheduling delays caused by the Kubernetes scheduler. Users can now inspect Workloads, LocalQueues, ClusterQueues, ResourceFlavors, and Cohorts directly within the Headlamp interface.
Troubleshooting Kueue with Headlamp
- The alpha plugin provides read-only views for Kueue v1beta2 Cohorts, ClusterQueues, LocalQueues, ResourceFlavors, and Workloads.
- It enables users to inspect QuotaReserved and Admitted condition types to determine if a Job is blocked by quota or scheduling.
- The UI allows tracing the relationship between a Workload and its associated LocalQueue and ClusterQueue.
- Users can verify resource requests (CPU, memory, Pod count) against ClusterQueue nominal quotas and ResourceFlavor assignments.
Why it matters
This plugin improves observability for cloud-native environments using Kueue by reducing the need to manually parse complex YAML objects via the command line.
