PostgreSQL moves SLES 15.6 repositories to ZYPP archive
PostgreSQL's SLES 15.6 RPM repositories are being retired to an archive after SUSE ended general support on December 31, 2025.
Summary
The PostgreSQL PGDG RPM repository is retiring its SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP6 (15.6) repositories and moving them to the PostgreSQL ZYPP archive. SLES 15.6 general support ended on December 31, 2025. Users still on this version must either upgrade to SP7 or switch to the archived repositories, which will not receive further updates. All PostgreSQL major versions built for SLES 15.6, including PostgreSQL 18, remain available in the archive.
What users need to do
- Affected systems: SLES 15 SP6 installations using the main PostgreSQL RPM repository
- Archive location: https://zypp.postgresql.org/repopackages/#archivedrepos
- Available versions: All PostgreSQL major versions previously built for SLES 15.6, including PostgreSQL 18
- Migration options: Upgrade to SLES 15 SP7, or switch to the ZYPP archive and accept no further updates
- Support channel: pgsql-pkg-yum@lists.postgresql.org or the issue tracker for questions
Why it matters
This follows standard lifecycle management for enterprise Linux distributions, but administrators running PostgreSQL on SLES 15.6 need to act to maintain update paths or plan for frozen dependencies.
